At the official invitation… Women's delegation from NE,Syria visiting the Basque Country

A women's delegation from north and east Syria had arrived in the Basque Country, at the official invitation of the regional parliament, Suargi, a non-governmental organization and the municipality of Duranco, according to Kongra Star Media Office.

The women's delegation included the co-chair of the Jazira Culture and Art Body, Rawdah Hassan, Kongra Star Diplomatic Committee member, Manal Mohammed, and Rojava Literature Committee member, Nariman Afadeki.

The delegation was received by the Mayor of Duranco, Emma Garastatxo, the Vice Mayor, Julian Rios, and the Mayor of Utxandio Egwitz Garmendia, in addition to a number of association members.

On Tuesday evening, the women's delegation visiting the Basque Country met with the Duranco City Council, and discussions took place on the achievements and post-war achievements of the Basque Country. "The Basque people have been able to build their region after the war, and it gives an incentive to the people of north and east Syria to rebuild it after the war in the region."

"We are writing the history of our region today, after being targeted by greedy groups in our territory and region, which we are writing for subsequent generations," she added, stressing the importance of recognizing the right of peoples to self-determination and the need for solidarity with other peoples.

Duranco Mayor Emma Garstatxo said, "After ten years of war, you are also fighting for the rights of all peoples, focusing on the protection of women and minorities."

Basque Autonomous Country had signed a cooperation agreement, in 2017, with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and a Basque women's delegation had visited in 2019 north and east Syria, to learn about the latest developments, particularly with regard to women's rights.
