Political researcher: KRG monopolizes the goods of the region for itself

Cities in Southern Kurdistan, particularly Hewler, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk Governorates in the past few days, witnessed student protests demanding their monthly salaries and improve their situation in university housing, in which dozens of students, civil activists and journalists were arrested by the security forces. 

Kawa added” the ruling authorities in Southern Kurdistan seeks to impose its control on the community, the Government exploits the citizens the rights of the people and did not give them even small their needs from of the money allocated to them, pointing out that protests that erupted in many cities to express their views and demand their rights.

He explained” the student protests came as result popular displeasure from the situation in Southern Kurdistan, saying:” students’ demands are common problem among all the people of Southern Kurdistan, and the residents can no longer to be tolerated the dire condition that suffered it on daily basis, so the intellectual class and students did not bear the bad situation. So, they organized the protests and they support the protests.”

He went on to say:” Informed sources confirmed that KRG confronted them by suppressing and arresting, in which 56 persons had been arrested by security forces in Sulaymaniyah during 24 hours most of them were students and activist, as well as 5 journalists were arrested and destroying their equipment and seizure it, all reports confirms that all the protests had been harassed by security forces.”   

Nader stressed that KRG "There is no freedom or right of expression in the region. In the view of the KRG, its men are free to commit the most heinous crimes and to beat and humiliate demonstrators and citizens."

In view of the economic crisis in Southern Kurdistan, Kawa Nader noted that the economy of Southern Kurdistan under control the hands of the mafia and they controlled the exports and imports of the region and the people in Southern Kurdistan, who were starving, so the economic situation was bad, and good for a small class (the ruling class), but the whole society was suffering."

Kawa Nader indicated that just a few days ago, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated that out of 900 million monthly oil revenues, we only have information on the entry of 340 million into the region's fund. Others don't have information about it, and he wondered where all the money was going?

Nader stressed that "the Kurdistan Regional Government, KRG, has no financial plans or programmes, and the economic situation is very important." He said: "Funds are in the hands of a small group of people (i.e. the proceeds of Southern Kurdistan), as well as very poor services for the cities and regions of the Kurdistan region."

'Citizens must have rights and responsibilities'

Kawa Nader stressed that "the system must be changed, the system must be a citizen system, and the citizen must have rights and responsibilities. There must be evidence of where the community is headed. The government's work must be monitored, because its work is now irregular. "

Kawa noted that the worst of the current Government "is against its people. Of course, victory will be the right of the people and their voice and the defeat and debt of the oppressors and slaves to the enemies of the people. Unfortunately, KRG has so far not gone beyond any positive steps, but has intensified violence against civilians. "
