Jurist calls upon international move to stop chemical’s Turkish attacks against Kurds

The Turkish occupation state has continued to violate international laws by using internationally prohibited weapons in the legitimate defense zones "Medya", since April 23^rd of this year, against separate areas in Başûr.

In its latest official report, the Kurdistan Communities Union confirmed that the Turkish occupation state launched more than 300 chemical weapons attacks against the Popular Defense Forces, over a period of 6 months, from the period between April 23 and last November 23.

The British newspaper, Morning Star, revealed in a report, on May 3, the Turkish occupation state’s use of chemical weapons in the areas of “Zap, Avaşîn, Metîna, based on a leaked video of the chemical attack launched by the Turkish occupation in Southern Kurdistan.

And in the context of the Turkish occupation state’s violation of human rights, violating all international conventions and norms, by using internationally prohibited weapons against the legitimate defense areas in Başûr Kurdistan, and about their human rights aspects, ANHA agency met with Bashira Jamal al-Din.

Human rights defender Bashira Jamal al-Din believes that the Turkish occupation state's use of internationally prohibited weapons is evidence of transgressing borders and human values, and of committing war crimes against humanity.

She pointed out that the international silence, if indicative of anything, indicates the tacit approval of the capitalist countries on the attacks targeting the Kurds in Başûr, asking them to put the human interest above their own interests with the Turkish occupation state.

The human rights advocate noted that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons entered into effect in 1997, and 193 countries joined it, including the Turkish occupation state, and one of its most important clauses is not to use internationally prohibited weapons, or to acquire or store its primary material, but the Turkish occupation state did not abide by this treaty. This is a violation of international law.

Bashira Jamal al-Din confirmed that the Turkish occupation state deliberately used chemical weapons in all its attacks, and evidence of its use of internationally prohibited weapons is what it did with its occupation of Afrin, Serêkaniyê/ Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî/ Tal-Abyed later.

She confirmed of what happened to the child Mohammad, who was burned with these toxic substances by the Turkish occupation in Serêkaniyê, in November of 2019, and who received treatment in French hospitals in front of the world's eyes.

And human rights defender Bashira Jamal al-Din pointed out that the international community must form a committee specialized in internationally prohibited weapons, and go to the legitimate defense areas to reveal the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state.

It called on the international community, the Security Council and international organizations to carry out their legal and moral duty towards the legitimate defense zones, and to hold the Turkish occupation state accountable for its use of internationally prohibited chemical weapons.
