Sheikhmos Ahmed: IDPs is negatively affected by continued closure of Tel Kocher Crossing

Despite all the calls to reopen Tel Kocher Crossing by AANES, but concerned parties and hegemonic countries on the top is Turkey are still ignoring those calls, rejecting to reopen the Tel Kocher Crossing. It insists on keeping it closed to international aid and economic movement.

The co-chair of the Office of IDPs and Refugees in North and East Syria, Sheikhmos Ahmed, said that NE, Syria areas are densely crowded within a narrow geographical area, in conjunction with "the inaction of humanitarian organizations towards our regions, especially in the light of the outbreak of COVID 19, which is having a significant impact on camp residents, refugees and thousands of IDPs."

Adding: "The Autonomous Administration has taken several preventive measures for fear of the virus spreading in the camps, in light of the failure of international organizations, especially the World Health Organization (WHO), to provide the necessary medicines, especially the vaccine that must be available for the displaced and residing within the camps in the region."

About the measures taken by the office, Ahmed stated that they limited the movement of exit and entry of residents in the camps, in addition to establishing quarantine place for each camp in the event of COVID 19 infections. If necessary, they are transferred to centers or hospitals for COVID-19 quarantine center, in addition to raising awareness among camp residents.

Regarding the continued closure of the Tel-Kocher Crossing, Ahmed said: “The closure of the Tel-Kocher Crossing by a decision of the Security Council when Russia used its veto in favor of the Syrian regime and in favor of Turkey, negatively affected the residents of the camps, as the Tel-Kocher Crossing constitutes the main artery for the entry of humanitarian aid coming from out to this area.

Ahmed noted, "We in the Autonomous Administration are constantly developing alternative plans and programs, if the United Nations and the concerned authorities do not provide aid and basic supplies to the IDPs within the areas of northeastern Syria."

Ahmed appealed to the concerned authorities, led by the United Nations, the Security Council, the European Union and the Arab countries, to put pressure on the countries that have nationals in the al-Hol camp from the families of the terrorist organization ISIS, to return their nationals to their countries or to support the Autonomous Administration from a political, moral, material and logistical point of view in order not to happen a disaster humanitarian and security.
