23 years have passed since the international conspiracy against the Kurdish people and leader Abdullah Ocalan.  With the beginning of the plot, protests began under the slogan, "You will not be able to block our sun."  On the night of October 9, 1998, Muhammad Khaled Oral set himself on fire in Marash Prison.  The event gradually turned into a ring of fire around the leader, Abdullah Ocalan.

These activities later spread to almost all areas where the Kurds live.  And its resonance spread in the world, especially in Kurdistan, through the millions of uprisings.

The events began on the 9th of October 1998, with the departure of the leader Ocalan from Syria, and continued during his captivity in Kenya.

 Getting around leader Apo

The conspirators did not expect that millions of people would stand up and respond to against the Kurdish people and their free future.  But the struggle that escalated in the four parts of Kurdistan condemned the conspiracy from the beginning and also thwarted it.

For the first time in history, the Kurds demonstrated a patriotic stance unparalleled in the world. The resistance front extended from prisons to fields to mountains, and it escalated day by day in the face of this struggle, all the masks of the conspirators were falling off.

The struggle has entered a new phase

The struggle for the freedom of Kurdistan has entered a new stage.  The Kurdish people, who sacrificed for the sake of their leadership, thwarted the conspiracy from the beginning through their struggle for freedom.  The conspirators had hoped to eradicate the flame of the struggle forever with the capture of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, but the struggle entered a new stage.  Because the democratic, environmental and women's liberation model proposed by the leader Ocalan, not only contributed to the entry of the Kurdish people's freedom struggle to a new stage;  At the same time, it also contributed to paving the way for the socialist and democratic struggle in all parts of the world.  It was a powerful historical response against the international conspiracy of the forces of capitalist modernity.

 Leader Ocalan analyzes the plot

Leader Ocalan, who was held in solitary confinement in Imrali, began analyzing the October 9 plot from its current and historical aspects.

He says: "It is clear that unless I analyze the magic system behind the seventy-year-old woman representing the European Council, who received me in Imrali prison, by which I mean capitalist modernity, I will not be able to correctly determine my fate."

In his pleadings, Ocalan referred to the role of countries such as Syria, Greece and Turkey, and said in that: "The role of the Syrian, Greek and Turkish governments in the conspiracy does not exceed the level of secondary bureaucratic services. During the investigation, I told the Turkish authorities (that is, representatives of the four main institutions; Military Intelligence, the MIT, the General Directorate of Security and Intelligence  gendarmerie), it is pointless for them to be happy to arrest me. This is not a brave way to use a friendly relationship to throw me on the plane with an unprecedented conspiracy. This is in fact a very blatant example of what modernism and liberal capitalism dominate states look like  United.

The stage of struggle and protests continues

The "You Cannot Block Our Sun" activities, from day one, established a new approach to the struggle against capitalist hegemony.  Today, this path of struggle against genocide, exploitation and conspiracy continues unabated in the mountains of Kurdistan.

The Kurdish freedom movement and the Kurdish people declared October 9, 1998 as a dark day, and launched continuous activities to make their voices heard all over the world.

'You Can't Block Our Sun' Protests

 Muhammed Khalid Oral

Mehmet Khaled Oral, closely followed the stage of the conspiracy that began in October 1998. He held a meeting with his fellow detainees in prison on October 8 and said: “There is a very comprehensive attack on our leader, something must be done, I am very careful, something must be done.”  Sure, but what is it?  They launched their operation exactly the same night.

Oral, left a message before his death.  In his letter, he was addressing leader Abdullah Ocalan, in which he said: "My anger, my hatred and my revenge are very great. But in prison I cannot do this against the enemy. Through this process I want to once again show my loyalty to you. And in this process I want to show my hatred, my anger and my hatred for  Enemy.Again I want revenge.I did not have the honor of meeting you and seeing you,but I always feel you in my heart.Of course my operation will not force the Turkish state to take any step. But they will see that the Kurdish people will turn the world into a prison for them,if it happens to you.  Any small harm. If we have any respect or name in the world, all this has been achieved thanks to your efforts and endeavors."

In the period when the leader Abdullah Ocalan arrived in Rome in particular, not only the PKK cadres and prisoners, but also Kurdish youth, women and the elderly burned their bodies.  During that period, Erdal Jakmeh was martyred on November 13, 1988 in Merdin prison, as well as Cemil Ozlab, whose son was martyred among the ranks of the Guerilla on November 27, 1989, and Khadija Valai (55 years old), who were among the patriots who carried out  Commando operations and were martyred as a result.

Each martyr left behind words, slogans and messages that later turned into a legacy of struggle.  Mehmet Aydin was martyred in Cangla Prison on November 13, 1998, and addressed a letter to leader Abdullah Ocalan in which he said: "Since October 9, I have been wondering what the moment we are living in without Apo and without the PKK? The results I reached are very bad.  And because the forces of darkness know this well, they put you under siege. You are the reason for our unity, our existence, and all the attacks."

Ramzi Akos (Cihat) and Ahmet Yildirim (Tayhan) set themselves on fire in front of the Russian Parliament building in Moscow, on the night of November 17, 1998. The two young men's event was broadcast on television channels around the world.

 Slamet Muntesh - Aynur Artan

Salamat Muntesh and Aynur Artan set themselves on fire on the night of October 23, 1998 in Midyat Prison.  Salamet Muntas was martyred in prison, and Einur Artan was martyred in Dijla University Hospital.  Salamat and Einur left a letter in which he wrote: "Loyalty to leadership is possible through understanding oneself and building oneself. Protecting leadership is possible by being one voice and one body. Protecting leadership is possible through reaching the fire of freedom."

 mother khadija

Mother Khadija, who was 55, joined the ring of fire around the leader Abdullah Ocalan in 1998, in her home located in the Bakcilar district of Istanbul, under the slogan "You will not be able to block our sun."  These types of activities and operations showed what leader Ocalan means to society.

 kerala charstan

Nezahat Paraji (Sharstan) was born in the Jezire district and joined the ranks of the guerrillas in 1991. She set herself on fire on March 20, 1999 in Butan.

 Elefteria Fortolaki

Eleftheria Fortulaki, a young woman and mother of two, originally from the Greek capital Athens, nicknamed "The Bride of Kurdistan", joined the "You Can't Block Our Sun" activists caravan to protest the repression of leader Ocalan.

 Sarpil Polat

Honorary Member of the Marxist-Leninist Armed Propaganda Society (MLSPB) Serpil Polat, who was imprisoned in Sakarya Prison, gave a revolutionary answer to the international imperialist conspiracy against the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

She wrote in her letter: "I condemn the imperialist attacks on the revolutionary leader Abdullah Ocalan, and on the Kurdish people, and I insist that Ocalan will not be prosecuted, and that I express my anger at the enemy with the fire of my body."

 Viyan Soran

Vian Soran (Laila and Wali Hassan) became a symbol of the "You Cannot Block Our Sun" activities, and set her body on fire in Heftanin in February of 2006. She wrote in her letter: "You can criticize me and blame me for the reason I carried out such an operation, or perhaps he will not accept it."  Leadrer Apo such an operation.. Every night of February 15, my heart will beat with the hearts of thousands of my martyred comrades such as Mazloum Dogan, Berivan, Ronahi, Rahshan, Sama, Fikri Baykeldi and Sardad.

 Ainur Yashli

Ainur was among those who set themselves on fire in Antalya in 2006.

Because the Kurdish people gathered around the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and tried to break the isolation imposed on him, the news that was arriving from Imrali prison angered the people.  There were reports of an attempt to poison Commander Ocalan.  Therefore, the "You Can't Block Our Sun" event has been resumed.
