Autonomous Administration of Shingal rejects results of the Iraqi elections

The Autonomous Administration in Shingal expressed its rejection of the results of the Iraqi elections, stressing that the early parliamentary elections showed that there were problems since the beginning of voting, as citizens were restricted and many of them were unable to vote, and said: "In fact, the people are not satisfied with these elections, and they have no legitimacy."

Yesterday, early Iraqi parliamentary elections were held throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan region, where the voter turnout in the Iraqi parliamentary elections was about 41%. Citizens in Shingal joined to cast their votes at a very low rate. In Shingal alone, 83,000 citizens have the right to participate and vote in the elections.  But after counting the votes, it was only about 13,000 votes.

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of Shingal issued a written statement on this issue and stated that these elections, in fact, did not take place with the consent of the people.

The statement of the Autonomous Administration included the following: “First of all, we salute the members, employees, administrators, elders, women, youth, families of the martyrs and the security forces for their hard work and dedication in the electoral process.

In the twenty-first century, history will return to its truth and the Yazidis and the peoples of the region have to evaluate the coming years better. Nothing comes without planning, beginning with the extermination and displacement where it was planned in advance.

Over the past three months, the Yazidi Freedom and Democracy Party and the Autonomous Administration of Shingal have worked hard for the Iraqi parliamentary elections, and everyone took their place in this work confident and very enthusiastic.

Iraq in general and the Yazidis in particular are not ready for elections that will not change anything, because they resented those who used to go to parliament without doing anything. Everyone understands that the change in the law that these people wrote does not hold the perpetrators of massacres and corruption accountable, and does not serve Iraq and its people.  They only boast that the citizens voted for them and that they represent the people, so the citizens became resentful of this situation and did not participate in the vote.

Voter turnout in all of Iraq is very low, with the exception of private votes in the camps, military forces, police, army and peshmerga. People’s mistrust of them shows their illegitimacy and this was clear during the people’s message that “no one has the right to rule and exercise his authority in our name” and because power is exercised  on the people, not for the purpose of protecting them.

1- What happened is that a very large percentage of the people of refugee camps went to the polling stations, and in the same governorate, the people of that province did not go to the polls, “Dohuk for example.” This indicates the presence of pressure and coercion in voting.

2- During the voting, many citizens were searching for their names in order to know in which center they would vote, but they could not find their names.

3- In the early hours of polling, the polling machines did not work on time, which led to discontent and many people returning to their homes.

4- A large number of voting machines stopped working until noon.

5- The internally displaced experienced difficulty in moving from village to village in order to vote, especially in Qiblat village in the south of Shingal.

All this indicates a lack of consideration for the situation of society and a lack of thought about them.

We, as an Autonomous Administration, affirm once again the rights of our community, and there is nothing in our struggle that makes us retreat from it. The goal will be to raise the will of the community to the highest level to manage itself and ensure its legitimate right to self-government.

We will defend and protect a political community to the end, and we will not leave it in the hands of the enemies.
