The so-called Political Union dominated the affairs of the Kurdish National Council after its establishment, and its leaders recently harnessed all their energies and capabilities to legitimize the Turkish occupation of the areas of north and east Syria, especially the Kurdish areas.

The Council was formed in the midst of the accelerating events in Syria on October 26, 2011 in Hewler, under the patronage of the then President of the Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, following the formation of what is known as the Syrian National Council. In its beginning, it included 11 parties, and then 16 parties, and its formation came to blow up the initiative of the Kurdish National Movement Parties established on the homeland on May 14, 2011.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria and the Kurdish Yekiti in Syria ruled the Kurdish National Council, and they did not offer anything to the Kurdish people, but rather turned into a tool in the hands of the Kurdistan occupiers and the forces that oppose the aspirations of the Kurdish people and the peoples of the region completely.

Co-chair of the Kurdistan Democratic Peace Party, Talal Mohamed, who was a member of the Kurdish National Council explained in a statement to ANHA, "At the time when there were talks between the West Kurdistan Council and the Kurdish National Council in 2013 in order to form the Autonomous Administration, the National Council was holding talks with the Coalition, putting off the talks regarding the Autonomous Administration, and after a while, the National Council announced its joining the Coalition, while the discussions concerning the Autonomous Administration were stopped."

Why was the Political Union formed?

As a result of the wrong and hostile policy pursued by the Kurdish National Council, three political parties split from its ranks, namely the Kurdish Left Party in Syria / Mohamed Musa, the Kurdish Democratic Left Party in Syria / Saleh Kedo, and the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Party / Jamal Sheikh Baki, joining the Democratic Autonomous Administration that was announced on January 21, 2014 in al-Jazira region.

On the reason for his defection from the Kurdish National Council, Talal Mohamed said, "The main reason for the defection from the Kurdish National Council was its joining the Syrian Coalition, and stopping the talks about the Autonomous Administration's establishment."

On December 14, 2013, 4 parties announced the formation of the so-called Political Union, and these parties are (the Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (Al-Party) / Abdel Hakim Bashar, the Kurdish Azadi Party in Syria / Khairuddin Morad's wing, and the Kurdish Azadi Party in Syria / Mostafa Oso's wing, and the Kurdish Yekiti Party in Syria headed by Abdel Basit Hamo, and the union took over the task of managing the Kurdish National Council completely.

The Kurdish National Council (Political Union) blew up all the initiatives launched to unite the Kurdish ranks, the Supreme Kurdish Committee, and the Kurdish political reference, and the Political Union separated all parties that denounced and opposed their policies, such as the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria / Muhyiddin Sheikh Ali, the Kurdish Democratic Party in Syria (Al-Party) / Nasruddin Ibrahim, and the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Accord Party / Fawzi Shengali. Then the Kurdish Democratic Progressive Party froze its membership in the council.

After the series of splits that affected the Kurdish National Council in Syria, only the so-called Political Union remained of it, as it accepted all Turkish policies hostile to the Kurdish cause, so it was accepted to join the so-called Syrian National Council which later turned into the Syrian National Coalition, the political umbrella for the Syrian National Army's mercenaries.

The Political Union, under the name of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, deals with Turkish intelligence, and there are dozens of reports and documents that have appeared in this regard, and ANHA has published some of them, including the meetings that took place between the leaders of the Political Union and Turkish intelligence in 2016.

The Political Union takes all its decisions from Turkey, the Syrian Opposition Coalition and the Government of Southern Kurdistan. For example, two days before the elections of Municipal Councils in al-Jazira region in 2015, representatives of the Kurdish National Council met with representatives of the Turkish state in Turkey, and the council took a decision to freeze its membership within the reference, and then there were differences between the National Council and the Syrian Coalition, and the Turkish government reconciled between them. This was confirmed by Mezgin Ahmed, a member of the reference.

Recently, after the publication of several documents and videos about the grave crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries in the occupied areas, especially in Afrin, representatives of the Political Union came out via TV channels affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the media affiliated with the Syrian Coalition to beautify the image of these crimes by calling on the forcibly displaced people of Afrin to return to Afrin although the Turkish occupation has not yet allowed the union itself to open an office there under any name.

In the beginning of July, Abdel Hakim Bashar denied during a meeting held in Southern Kurdistan the Turkish occupation state committing crimes against Afrin people, and said, "Turkey did not commit crimes in Afrin, the situation is good, and people should return to it."

Abdel Hakim's statements cased public outrage all over north and east Syria's areas, and the Kurdish National Unity Parties confirmed during a statement on June 3 that Abdel Hakim Bashar justifies and legitimizes the Turkish crimes.

Allocating 25,000 dollars for each media outlet that promotes the Turkish occupation

A document was recently published proving that the Turkish occupation state allocated an amount of 25,000 US dollars to each media outlet that publishes news about the return of Afrin people to their homes from which they were forcibly displaced. Some of the people were deceived by these calls, and during their return they were kidnapped, demanded for ransom and also killed.

On August 21, 30 people arrived in al-Shahba canton, fleeing the occupied canton of Afrin, as a result of the crimes of Turkey and its mercenaries. Those who fled denied the allegations of the so-called Kurdish National Council and said that no one can stay in occupied Afrin.

According to a report by the Human Rights Organization - Afrin, 987 cases of kidnapping were documented in 2020, including 92 women, and more than 72,000 trees were cut down, in addition to the destruction and theft of 50 archaeological sites.

The organization stated that more than 604 civilians were killed since the start of the Turkish aggression on Afrin canton, 498 as a result of the Turkish bombardment, in addition to the injury of 696 people as a result of that bombing, including 303 children, while the accidents of mines and booby-traps amounted to 207 cases. The organization also documented more than 7,343 cases of kidnapping during 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the fate of more than half of them is still unknown.

Talal Mohamed explained that the propaganda campaigns launched by the leaders of the Political Union aimed at burnishing the policies of the mercenaries of the Syrian Coalition and the Turkish occupation state against the people of the region, especially the policies of demographic change in the occupied Kurdish areas, and said, "The return of Afrin people to their areas in these circumstances is an illegal return."

Mohamed stressed that the leaders of the Political Union are seeking to legitimize the Turkish occupation, and noted, "The statements made by those people for the return of Afrin people to their villages have one goal which is to legitimize the occupation and the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries." He explained that the only solution for Afrin people's return to their homes is ending the occupation.
