Kino Gabriel: Our forces achieved 95% of their goals, preserved Syria's unity

The Syrian Democratic Forces was established on October 10, 2015, and announced through their official statement that the goal of the foundation is to establish a democratic Syria, in which Syrian citizens enjoy freedom, justice and dignity without excluding anyone.

After the founding announcement, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched several campaigns against ISIS mercenaries in the areas of north and east Syria, such as the campaign of the two Martyrs Ilan and Judy, the campaign of Martyr Robar, and the campaign to liberate Raqqa and Deir Ezzor. These campaigns succeeded and completely defeated ISIS mercenaries geographically from the area east of the Euphrates River.

The Turkish occupation state intervention in Syria on July 24, 2016, hindered the liberation of several areas west of the Euphrates River from ISIS.

The Syrian Democratic Forces also fought strong battles against the Turkish occupation army in Afrin at the beginning of 2018, when the Turkish occupation army launched a large-scale attack after Russian complicity following a barter agreement, and then in Gire Spi / Tel Abyad and Serekaniye / Ras al-Ain after the American withdrawal from the frontier points.

Conditions that contributed to the Syrian Democratic Forces' announcement

The Syrian Democratic Forces' Spokesman Kino Gabriel explained, "Many developments took place at the local and regional levels before SDF's establishment, the most important of which are the successes achieved by the factions and formations that contributed to the formation of forces to confront the terrorist ISIS organization, in particular during Kobane resistance, and later in the Khabour area, Tel Abyad / Gire Spi and Serekaniye / Ras al-Ain.

Kino Gabriel pointed out that there were several factors that contributed to the establishment of the Syrian Democratic Forces, including the resistance shown by the factions and military formations in both al-Jazira and Kobane, and the successes achieved, in particular, the successes achieved by the People's Protection Units (YPG) on the one hand, and the failure of the Turkish-backed groups on the other hand. He added, "These groups were relied upon, and there was a project to form forces, train them and secure their requirements to confront the regime forces and the terrorist ISIS organization. Two groups were trained within Turkish territory and sent to Syria, but they failed from the beginning and did not achieve anything."

95% of the goals achieved

Gabriel continued, "There was coordination with the international coalition forces, and a discussion took place in order to unify the factions and formations. This culminated in the announcement of the Syrian Democratic Forces' establishment, which proved its success on the ground, and achieved the goals set by 95%, as ISIS mercenaries were completely defeated geographically in the areas east of the Euphrates River in March 2019. We were able to liberate Manbij city west of the Euphrates, and there was a possibility to liberate other areas such as Jarablus, al-Bab and others, but the regional interventions that took place, especially by the Turkish state, and some local factions hindered this. Thus, the people of those areas were unable to reach the safety and stability that we are witnessing now in the areas of north and east Syria."

Kino Gabriel explained that the Syrian Democratic Forces could not adequately defend the areas of north and east Syria in Afrin, Gire Spi / Tel Abyad, and Serekaniye / Ras al-Ain which were occupied by the Turkish occupation state, and said, "This was due to the objective factors existed; the balances of power and contradictions among the international powers that have a relationship with the Syrian file, whether it is Russia or the United States of America."

He said, "Now these areas are suffering what the areas under the control of so-called opposition forces or so-called Syrian National Army suffer from, as daily violations are practiced against the Syrian people under the cover of the Turkish state which imposes Turkish policies on the people of the region through Turkificating institutions and linking the occupied areas administratively and organizationally with the Turkish state, and this is a clear example of the form of occupation that Turkey is trying to impose as a fait accompli in the Syrian conflict.

The Syrian Democratic Forces preserved the unity of Syrian land

Spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces confirmed that their forces maintained the unity of the Syrian territory, and said, "Through our project to eliminate ISIS, we were able to spare approximately 30% of the Syrian territories from entering into the political battles within Syria in general, and the area was spared to be controlled by mercenaries who are mortgaged to Turkey, and are working to connect the Syrian regions with Turkey. We have also saved our areas from entering under the control of the regime."

Kino Gabriel explained that their forces contributed to maintaining the connection and interdependence between the areas in north and east Syria, and maintaining the project of the Autonomous Administration of North, East and Syria which aims to develop the system of governance and administration at the level of the region, and said, "Our forces are part of this administration, and their tasks are to defend this project against any internal or external forces."

Kino Gabriel noted that their forces also maintained balance and harmony among the components of the region, and said, "Joint action and common sacrifices among the components of the region under the Autonomous Administration were the main guarantee for the success of the Syrian Democratic Forces and their ability to confront the external pressures that some tried to impose, and to confront local, external, regional and international tricks against the peoples of the region."

Thus, the Syrian Democratic Forces are still organizing campaigns on an ongoing basis to pursue ISIS mercenary cells and the Turkish occupation state in the areas of north and east Syria, and have achieved great successes in this regard so far.
