Memorial ceremony for martyrs of Qamishlo massacre

On the fifth anniversary of the explosion that took place in the Western Neighborhood of Qamishlo, the city council and the Martyrs' Families Council organized a memorial ceremony at the site of the bombing.

The ceremony was attended by dozens of residents of Qamishlo city, representatives of the Autonomous Administration, members of Kongra Star, and members of political parties and civil society institutions, raising martyrs' pictures.

The ceremony began with holding a minute of silence in tribute for the martyrs, after which the Qamishlo City Council made a statement, which was read by the Council's member Hasna Remo.

The statement explained that despite the magnitude of the explosion, those who claim to protect human rights did not condemn the bombing or issue a statement about the incident, and the statement continued: "We, as Qamishlo City Council, pledge our people to stand against terrorism, and we will stand by our people until a democratic society and decentralized system are built."

Member of the Martyrs' Families Council in Qamishlo, Omar Musa, also spoke and recalled in the person of all the martyrs of Kurdistan and the Free Mountains the martyrs of Qamishlo explosion.

Musa explained that the goals of those martyrs were to liberate the identity, culture and language of their society, and pointed out that this terrorist attack was a continuation of the attacks of the occupying countries that are trying to this day to eliminate the identity and existence of the Kurdish people.

Musa pointed to the practices and violations committed by the occupiers on a daily basis, such as digging up the holy shrines of the martyrs and the practices of demographic change in the occupied territories. But in the face of this matter, the Kurdish people resort to the inheritance of forty years of struggle in the Mountains of Kurdistan.

Then the Qamishlo City Council and the Martyrs' Families Council lit candles. The ceremony ended with chanting slogans glorifying the martyrs.

It is worth mentioning that on July 27, 2016, ISIS mercenaries targeted the Western Neighborhood of Qamishlo city with a truck loaded with explosives, killing 62 people and wounding more than 176 people.
