Activists launch campaign demanding recognition of AANES

The council issued a statement to the public, in which they wrote:

To our dear and honourable friends:

The revolution of Rojava which since its beginning on the 19th of July, 2012 has become a spark of hope for humanity and a source of freedom in the 21st century, has reached its tenth year. The Rojava Revolution is a true people’s revolution, a women’s revolution, a revolution of the youth and a revolution of a democratic society.

The Rojava Revolution was from the outset a revolution of all ethnicities in the north and east of Syria, such as Kurds, Arabs, Syriac - Assyrians, Turkmen and Armenians - and in this way a true national democratic revolution. In the legendary resistance of Kobane the revolution showed an enormous determination and heroism -12,000 fighters martyred for freedom, and 21,000 fighters wounded.

Revolutionaries and internationalists from Turkey and other parts of the world have fought against fascism, struggled, and been martyred in the Rojava Revolution.

As much as the Rojava Revolution has managed to be a democratic revolution, involving all groups and ethnicities, it has been a revolution for women’s freedom too. No other revolution has experienced such a large amount of women’s participation, leadership and influence. The Rojava Revolution has become a revolution not only for Kurdish women, but for all women in the Middle East and beyond.

The peoples of North and East Syria, in their defeat of ISIS, not only defeated a barbaric and reactionary force. They defeated an organization of thugs, enemies of the entire whole world. This resistance - against attacks of al-Nusra, ISIS and finally the Turkish state and its mercenaries - now reaches its tenth year.

Although the peoples in the world value the Rojava Revolution for ridding the world of the barbaric ISIS, the international community continues to ignore the Rojava Revolution. In platforms like Geneva, Astana and Sochi, jihadist mercenaries with blood on their hands are allowed to participate. Yet Rojava, which has become a model for security, peace, stability, freedom and democracy is still excluded.

Likewise, the humanitarian aid of international organizations is allowed to reach the jihadist mercenaries who are enemies of humanity, but Rojava has been forgotten, even though its population continues to increase due to internal migration, pulled in by Rojava’s open-door policy and its democratic characteristics.

In these conditions, we need the support of our friends in establishing a democratic Syria and,  specifically, for the protection and perpetuation of the revolution in north and east of Syria, which includes Rojava. Today, it is our duty to secure a political status for the Rojava Revolution, a revolution which has been achieved with our blood, our lives and our efforts. To get it officially recognized by the international community, in order to achieve a perpetual Rojava Revolution.

On this basis we invite all friends of the Rojava Revolution and democratic forces to push to make the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria officially recognised.We invite everyone to participate in our campaign (# hashtag) on 18th July 2021 at 20.00 Amed, 19.00 Brussels time, for the recognition of North and East Syria, on all social media platforms.
