AA discusses important files with Belgian delegation, hands it over a number of ISIS children and women

Yesterday, a Belgian delegation headed by Ambassador Eric de Muynck, official for the Syrian file and representative of the Belgian Foreign Ministry arrived at the headquarter of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in Qamishlo, on a visit to the areas of north and east Syria, according to what was published by the official website of the Foreign Relations Department.

The delegation was received by Co-chair of the department Abdel Karim Omar, Co-chair Fanar Al-Kait, and Member of the department's administrative body, Sana Daham.

During the meeting, the two sides touched on several important files, most notably the political process, the recent Security Council resolution regarding the entry of humanitarian aid through Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey, Turkey's continued cutting off water from Hasakah city, and Turkish violations, in addition to other files related to the region.

In turn, Co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Abdel Karim Omar, explained that the residents of north and east Syria are frustrated about the recent Security Council decision to continue closing the Tal Kocher / Al Yaroubiya crossing because of its negative and catastrophic consequences for them, stressing the need to re-consider the decision, and the need to find alternative ways to deliver aid to the population, as well as to send vaccines directly to the region to confront the Corona epidemic.

For his part, Ambassador and Official in Charge of the Syrian-Belgian file, Eric de Muynck, said, "We exchanged views with the Autonomous Administration on supporting stability in the region, and supporting the comprehensive political process as the only sustainable solution to the current crisis in Syria, as it is the best option to address the Syrian crisis, as well as the possibility of trying foreign terrorist fighters in the area where crimes were committed. We also discussed humanitarian needs in north and east Syria which remain high, camp security management, how to eradicate extremism and terrorism, support children living in difficult conditions, and the many challenges facing the Administration.

De Muynck reiterated the position of the State of Belgium that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria, and this solution can only come through a viable, credible and comprehensive political process by all Syrians in line with Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

De Muynck added, "The State of Belgium recognizes the important role played by the Syrian Democratic Forces in confronting terrorism, and has contributed to the elimination of ISIS, and we are concerned about the situation of the camps and children, as the Corona epidemic has also exacerbated the situation here. For this reason my government continues to look into how to provide additional humanitarian support to northeastern Syria by insuring medical equipment to the Corona virus, and supporting the project to combat extremism in children is a priority for us."

According to the official website of the Department of Foreign Relations, the Autonomous Administration handed over a number of Belgian women and children from the families of ISIS mercenaries according to an official handover document signed between the two sides.
