Today, the Syriac Union Party issued a statement to public opinion on the 106th anniversary of the Seyfo Massacres committed by the Ottomans against the Assyrian Syriac on June 15th 1915.

The text of the statement reads:

"We commemorates on this day the 106th anniversary of the genocide of our Assyrian Syriac people by decision of the Ottoman Sultanate in an organized and structured operation to end the existence of the then Christian peoples, where Armenians and Greek Ponts also sought to prepare the ground for the creation of a single nation, one religion and one language, the political causes of the extermination, the decisions of the Ottoman Sultanate leadership to carry out the extermination and the hundreds of martyrs. Enough to prove to the whole world that what happened was an ethnic cleansing against an indigenous people living on their historical land, Mesopotamia, thousands of years ago, but until now this issue has still been marginalized and absent from international forums despite being recognized by many European and American countries.

Today, as we commemorate this occasion, we commemorate the martyrs of our ancestors who died in these massacres and bow in tribute to their immaculate souls. We renew our vow to continue the struggle to uphold our rights in this cause. Our people are entitled to their full rights, we affirm the importance of international pressure on Turkey, the heiress of the Ottoman Sultanate, and its recognition of what has been done by its ancestors and the restoration of the right of peoples who have been morally and materially disadvantaged.

In this regard, we find that the continued marginalization of the issue and the failure to hold the perpetrator accountable are leading to further massacres, ethnic cleansing and demographic change, particularly by Turkey, which reflects the genocide of 1915 against the safe peoples with its policy, led by the Justice and Development Party (AKP). It plays a significant role in supporting armed terrorist organizations in Syria, as well as their direct occupation of many Syrian areas, which have increased the scourge and suffering of the Syrian people.

The Syriac Union Party rejects any chauvinistic, authoritarian, totalitarian or terrorist thought, which seeks to undo the other, and commits major crimes and violations in order to implement its dangerous plans. Syria has suffered a great deal from those ideas, which have led to great tragedies for its people and to put an end to anyone who wants to turn Syria into a land of ill ideas.

We stress the need to build the future Syria on democratic foundations that recognize the rights of national and religious components and that are devoted to the coexistence and equality of all. This guarantees all rights and freedoms. This will require considerable efforts on the part of the Syrian people and the international community to implement the relevant international resolutions and build peace in Syria.
