Makhmour Co-chair: expressing concern will not stop attacks

Co-chair of the Makhmour Refugee Camp Haji Kacan has said that attacks carried out by the Turkish occupation state are part of a wider annihilation policy against the Kurdish people and that expressing concern is not going to stop attacks.

The Makhmour or Restem Cudi Refugee Camp since being created up to date underwent tens of attacks by the Turkish occupation state. The camp that houses citizens from Northern Kurdistan that fled the barbarity of the Turkish occupation state and though it is run by UN it has being a target for the Turkish occupation forces.

On June 2^nd, on a TV show Turkish President Receb Tayyip Erdogan threatened to carry out attacks on the camp, that threat was carried out three days later by Turkish unmanned aircraft.

Co-chair of the Makhmour Refugee Camp Haji Kacan has said that they are fighting two years ago the blockade imposed by the Kurdistan Democratic Party on the camp.

Kacan said: prior to this attack the camp periphery was targeted on many occasions but in this time sensitive areas were targeted inside the camp, our people in the camp are open to grave dangers. The area that was targeted is a square that commands six schools and very close to Martyr Aryan Garden that is replete with children. Because the attack was carried out at noontime nobody was hurt. They aim to terrify people but they are doomed to failure''.

Kacan noted that the camp is run by the United Nations and the Iraqi Government '' how this happens under the nose of the international community and all human rights associations. Within the last 28 years we made immeasurable sacrifices physically and morally, we have filed many demands to the UN on the attacks targeting the camp and all delegates that used to visit the camp were informed on the these issues, all promised us to protect the camp and to life the blockade for a period of time, but all these promises have not benn fulfilled up to date. The UN and the Iraqi Government bear the responsibility''.

Kacan indicated to the statements made by the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield when she said that any attack targeting civilians at Makhmour refugee camp would be a violation of international and humanitarian law, I am deeply concerned''. Kacan said ''the Kurdistan Freedom Movement is the sole force that repel crimes carried out by the Turkish occupation state systematically targeting the Kurdish people to annihilate them, the guerrilla fighters are defending themselves in Medya Zones they are sons of the people of the region fighting occupation for this our people in whole Kurdistan ought to unify and take the side of the guerrilla fighters and embrace them. If guerrilla annihilated they Kurds at large as well as other peoples in the region are going to vanish. Based on this the sole choice is to stand up to Turkish occupation forces. The Kurds everywhere ought to rise up to the occasion and repel attacks that target Southern Kurdistan, Makhmour and other parts of Kurdistan. All Kurdish people and friends ought to move to stop this Kurdish infighting that Erdogan seeks to make use of and ignite it. We have made thousands of sacrifices in Shengal, Hewler and Qamishlo, the choice is to proceed the dignified resistance. We, sons of Makhmour will fight to the very end''.
