The Turkish occupation state continues to block the water of the Euphrates River, which is the artery on which the people of north and east Syria depend for their living income. The decline in the water levels of the Euphrates River has caused significant damage to agricultural land and power outages, which have adversely affected the industrial sector and thus the livelihoods of the Syrian people and north and east regions of Syria in particular.

On this subject, Hawar news agency ANHA interviewed with the Deputy Co Presidency of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, Hassan Koçer, who began by saying: "The policy of the Turkish state has been known since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis so far is to sabotage and demolish Syrian infrastructure and to support armed groups in order to undermine the will of the Syrian people."

Noting that the blocking of Euphrates water is directly linked to Turkey's current policy of demographic change in the occupied areas, primarily Afrin, Hassan Koçer added: "The areas of north and east Syria are agricultural lands and the blocking of the water of the Euphrates aims to starve the people and displace them from it."

He explained that the Turkish occupation state has striven by various means to foil the Autonomous Administration, including the policy of starvation, as it cuts off water from time to time from Hasakah and blocking the Euphrates water, which completely feeds the regions in NE, Syria."

He asserts that the blocking of Euphrates' water is having a negative impact on the lives of the people in general in Syria and in particular in the north and east of Syria, because its people are generally dependent on agriculture for their livelihood.

Hassan Koçer stated that the Turkish occupation state was not bound by the international agreements concluded between it and Syria and Iraq on the amount of water flocked in Syria and Iraq. He added: "This threatens a humanitarian catastrophe that could occur if Turkey continues to use water as a weapon of pressure on this region."

He concluded by saying: "We appeal to human rights institutions and organizations to intervene quickly and resolve this problem, which threatens the lives of millions of people in north and east Syria."
