Mustafa: 17,500 Corona vaccines reached NE Syria

Juan Mustafa confirmed that 17,500 AstraZeneca vaccines reached the areas of north and east Syria by the World Health Organization, and vaccinating the medical staff started, amid the World Organization's promises to provide the region with another quantity soon.

After strenuous efforts made by the Health Body in North and East Syria to obtain Corona virus vaccines, 17,500 vaccines that were sent by the World Health Organization arrived, and this is the first time that the World Organization has provided medical materials to the region directly.

The Co-chair of the Health Body in North and East Syria, Juan Mustafa, explained to Hawar news agency that they are in constant contact with the World Health Organization, which one of its tasks is to support all peoples of the world with medical services, especially after the emergence of the Corona virus.

Juan Mustafa explained: "It is the duty of the World Health Organization to provide vaccines to all peoples of the world, to preserve the health of our people and obtain their medical benefits. We, in the Health Body, have made great efforts which culminated in sending 17,500 vaccines to the region."

He noted that the priority in distributing vaccines belongs to the medical staff at first, and that the dispatched quantity is sufficient to vaccinate medical personnel since the medical staff is the first line of defense against the Corona virus."

The vaccination of medical personnel began in the city of Hasakah a few days ago, and it is expected that all medical personnel in north and east Syria will be vaccinated in the coming days.

Mustafa indicated that the vaccine received from the World Health Organization is (AstraZeneca), British production, and has been tried in Europe and has positive results.

To that, Juan Mustafa confirmed that the World Health Organization promised to send another quantity of vaccines to the areas of north and east Syria, and said: "There are promises to send another batch to the areas of north and east Syria at the end of June."

Concerning the number that meets the needs of the north and east Syria areas for vaccinations, Mustafa said that they need "nearly a million vaccines."
