Kurdish community in Lebanon celebrates Newroz

Under the slogan "In the Newroz Resistance Spirit, We Will Defeat Occupation," the Democratic Union Party, the Kongra Star, the Newroz Cultural and Social Association, Jin Association for Women organized a celebration in the center of the Lebanese capital Beirut on the occasion of Newroz.

The celebration began with holding a minute of silence, followed by the ignition of the Newroz fire by the martyrs' mothers, after which some revolutionary and folkloric songs were presented by the Walate Roje Singing Group, where artists Nesrin Botan, Ahmed Khani and Mohammed Belko sang, and some songs were presented by the Lebanese artist Radwan Qassem, followed by a performance of a folk dance by the Martyr Ilan Ensemble and the Martyr Rojinda Ensemble.

After that, the Lebanese parliamentarian Paula Yaqouban gave a speech in which she blessed Newroz, and said: "At the beginning, I bless Newroz to the Kurdish people and all peoples, and there is no difference between a Lebanese, Armenian or Kurdish, we all aim to obtain freedom, we will not forget the leader of freedom, Abdullah Ocalan, and we will struggle every day for the leader's freedom."

Abdel Salam Ahmed, Representative of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in Lebanon, delivered a speech in which he said: "There is no doubt that Newroz has a special meaning for the Kurdish people, as it is not an entertainment celebration or a declaration of the coming of spring, but rather a symbol of struggle and sacrifice."

After that, a statement was read by the Newroz Cultural and Social Association and the Jin Women's Association, which stated:

 "We, in the name of the Newroz Cultural and Social Association, and the Jin Women's Association, congratulate our Kurdish people and all the peoples of the region on Newroz Day, Freedom Day, Resistance Day for the sake of a free and dignified life. We find that in Newroz this year, the strategic vision is clear, stressing the importance and necessity of co-existence among the peoples of the region; Kurds, Arabs, Armenians and Syrians, as well as among all cultural and ethnic identities in our ancient region that was the cradle of humanity at the dawn of history. We stress the fulfillment of this vision as the only way to reach ourselves and the peoples of the region to safety, peace and stability."

Several congratulatory telegrams were also presented, one of which by the Lebanese Communist Party, stating, "In the name of the leadership of the Lebanese Communist Party, we congratulate you on Newroz, and we wish you and all the peoples of our region progress, unity and prosperity."

A telegram by the Syrian Social Nationalist Party said: "On the occasion of the advent of the Kurdish New Year, we extend our warmest congratulations to our people celebrating this glorious occasion, which we see compatible with timing and significance with the ancient Syrian spirit in its understanding of the emergence generated by the coming spring."

The Lebanese Women's Council also congratulated the Kurdish New Year and Newroz, wishing that the New Year would bring goodness, peace and prosperity to Lebanon and the world at large.
