On the occasion of International Women's Day, which falls on March 8, the Syrian Women's Council issued a written statement, and Hawar news agency (ANHA) obtained a copy of which.

The text reads:

We, in the Syrian Women's Council, congratulate all women in the world on the occasion of the International Women's Day celebrated for more than a century. Today, women are moving forward with confidence that never look back, but rather they go forward worthily to the front, in order to give up all that is attached to them, Rather, it is progressing worthily to the front, to put all off the pagans and false beliefs that have stuck over years, believing in her rights, and armed with all her strength, knowledge without backing down, she is encouraged by the hope and confidence of the defender of truth.

We will continue these achievements with resistance, struggle and called from here all women of the world to join and be as responsible to protect our revolution, in which many women sacrificed their lives and to receive many gains, we are maintaining and developing them with serious, committed and organized work and to argue with awareness and will to achieve our goals.

On this great day, we pay tribute to all the glorified women who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the liberation of women and salvation from oppression, and to all those who were tortured in prisons and detention centers and sacrificed their souls on the road to freedom and independence, and we congratulate women everywhere and in the field, and we call for more progress and giving on the same path to raise and develop society.
