In her evaluation of the internationally hatched plot against leader Ocalan that was carried out on Feb 15th, 1999, she says in his 22 year imprisonment since Ocalan was arrested in Kenya as he passes through difficult conditions as being isolated from family and friends.

On this among others Benedetta Argentieri comments as follows :

It has been 22 years since Abdullah Ocalan was arrested in Kenya and brought to Turkey, in order to be prosecuted, he has been in terrible conditions for 22 years, and he has not received any visit by his family since March 2020. I think the campaign that Italy has started '' the moment is now'', is really important because the moment is now for his release. The problem here is that the nation states, the European Union, the United States and all the NATO countries,  are keep on supporting the idea that a leader of millions of people is still under arrest and in those conditions, most of the nation states although the see the crimes that Turkey is perpetrating not against the Kurdish people but all minorities, the keep on supporting Turkey and this is extremely demagogic. We have seen over and over again how Europe and NATO countries say that they care about human rights, democracy and freedom but the reality is that this is not true, this is not really what happening, so these two discourses are really disconnected and I think it is important to highlight how a political prisoner like Abdullah Ocalan   is being treated in this 22 years. So it is really important that the people, and just the people, there are so many mobilizations around Europe this weekend, we have the "Long March" in Germany, there are going to be mobilizations in France, Spain and Italy. For me as an Italian, the campaign that is being taking place the Moment Now, it is a signature campaign that asks for the release and bring it eventually to the UN, so the first part is to collect and gather signatories from intellectuals, politicians and people that care for human rights and human values, then the campaign links itself with another in South Africa and together they want to bring the signatories to the UN to push the case. In this 22 years he has done nothing but advocating for freedom, ecology and the revolution of women, we have seen in practice how all these values are very important so what the is the point of continuing this such incarceration what is Turkey afraid of what is Europe afraid of I think it is really important for people to understand this case in order to start thinking about the future  in different ways .

As I mentioned earlier, Abdullah Ocalan in prison have written several books that lay out a new idea of society that is called the democratic confederalism that goes beyond the nation state concept and can give a real solution to all that crises that are happening, we have a democratic crisis we have an ecological crisis as well as representation crisis. So a lot of people around the world have seen this as a possibility and a new way of self-governing that is extremely important that goes beyond. I think the nation state , the European Union, the whole system is really afraid of the new ways that try to organize the society and this is as I think who they don’t really intervene in what is happening in Turkey especially with Abdullah Ocalan  in incarceration.

In Italy there is a lot of movements there are people that really want the liberation of Abdullah Ocalan, there is a group of lawyers that are fighting for the liberation of Abdullah Ocalan because he has political asylum in Italy so technically he could come and live in  Italy and stay there, in 1999 before he went to Kenya he asked for political asylum before the answer he was forced to leave then he was incarcerated, but now this group of lawyers are fighting really in order to change this.

The people are the one that takes action against this illegal incarceration they really care, the spreading of the democratic confereralism ideas, also thanks to the Rojava Revolution, and a lot of people were inspired by this they are taking real actions in order to pressure the governments but the problem is that we are now in a new state paradigm in which the state is really repressive and with corona not so many people can go to the streets, and go to protests , for people in Europe they are asking for this because they see this as injustice against the leader of the Kurdish people.

There is a complete disconnection between states and peoples also the group that are fighting for Abdullah Ocalan, they also brought the PKK case into Strasbourg, the PKK according to the terrorist list is a terrorist organization, but in Strasbourg there is a ruling says NO, PKK is not a terrorist organization but it is a belligerent part in the civil war that is being happening now in Turkey, but because of the disconnection the lawyers were explaining in a call six months ago, and due to this disconnections the PKK is still on the list, and that should be taken off as soon as possible, in order to start also a new phase for the movement itself and for the liberation of Abdullah Ocalan.

Europe has a lot of ties with Turkey, economical and geopolitical these ties are preventing Europe to take a huge stance against the behavior of Turkey of course Abdulla Ocalan is the most important case but there are MPs and parties members elected are being repressed and incarcerated, intellectuals journalists anyone that have ties and even don’t have ties with the Kurdish population goes to prison, that is basically repression, Turkey has become a regime that everybody talks about it, everybody says it but nobody does anything that it extremely demagogic in this way, we expect or we should not, is states such as Italy and Spain say they will stop import and export economical deals of weapons  with Turkey  they would do it but instead they say yes we would stop but then they do not really stop it, we have seen this in October 2019 when Turkey attacked Sere Kaniye and Gire Spi all Europe condemned it and said they would stop trade with Turkey and due to the huge mobilization and the huge response of the people instead after six months they continued again we have states like UK they have just signed  a trade deal with Turkey of 25 billion U.S. dollars which is a huge deal, there has been constant repression which is also wearisome for the state of freedom also for Europe.
