Democratic prosecutors decided to call a Republican witness. Trump's defense team said, “We'll be calling a lot of witnesses in front of the Senate.”

This comes with the announcement by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell that he will vote to acquit him. According to McConnell, the trial aims to remove a president, but Trump is no longer in power, and therefore the trial lacks the legal basis for that.

With McConnell's acquittal, the majority of Republicans are expected to join him, and thus the required number of sixty-seven convictions will not be completed.
