On February 10, Turkey began launching new occupation attacks targeting Mount Gara, in which warplanes and helicopters are used, along with the soldiers on the ground, and the People’s Defense Forces confirmed in a statement that soldiers were transferred to Gara Mountains from the Turkish bases in Başûr Kurdistan, which is under the control of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.

Tariq Jawhar, the media advisor in the Culture and Youth Committee in the Parliament of Başûr Kurdistan, said in this context that the Turkish raids on the Kurdistan region are not new, but rather an extension of what Turkey has been doing during the past years.

Jawhar pointed out that the last large-scale occupation attacks against villages in the Kurdistan region under the pretext of pursuing the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) were months ago, but the winter season postponed many of the attacks, so Ankara has now begun to continue these attacks to benefit from "the understanding shown by the Prime Minister of Iraq during his visit to Ankara a month ago."

In a special statement to our agency, Jawhar added, “Erdogan's Turkey aspires to expand its influence as a state and seeks to build a new empire in this region, starting with northern Syria when the Turkish regime occupied many areas in Rojava in 2019, then its influence extended to Libya, and then interfered in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, "noting that this Erdogan expansionist policy is not new.

Jawhar indicated that Turkey suffers internally from political, economic and security crises, pointing out that democracy in Turkey has begun to decline a lot during Erdogan’s era, and prisons have become full of Kurdish parliamentary prisoners from various cities, as well as journalists; while freedom of the press has become very narrow and every journalist who thinks of criticizing Erdogan is exposed to security prosecutions, and he said, "All of these are pushing the Turkish government, headed by Erdogan, to export their internal crises abroad, and to stick to the PKK's peg to continue its struggle."

Jawhar expected that after the American elections and the change of America's policies after the arrival of Joe Biden to power and the distribution of his duties to new teams, that Turkey will go through a real crisis in its relationship with America, and may be subject to a lot of European-American pressure to end its influence and expansion in the region, explaining that more than 50 senators asked the new president, Joe Biden, to deal seriously and decisively with Erdogan and force him to end his policy of murder against the Kurds, whether inside Turkey, in Syria, or even the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The media advisor in the Culture and Youth Committee in the Parliament of Başûr Kurdistan affirmed that Turkey is undergoing an international isolation phase in foreign policy, and internally on the verge of elections, and that is why Erdogan is trying by various means to work to achieve victories in the upcoming elections, by launching attacks on the Kurds.
