Mechanism for archaeological sites protection concluded
With the attendance by the Internal Security Forces, General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces discussed with the Culture Body of the Autonomous Administration means of coordination to give protection to all archaeological sites in North Eastern Syria.
With the aim to give protection to all archaeological sites in North Eastern Syria and ways of coordination between the Internal Security Forces and the Body of Culture in North Eastern Syria, a meeting was held by the SDF with the attendance by representatives of the SDF, the Internal Security Forces in addition to representatives from the Culture Body of the Autonomous Administration, in which the Antiquities Directorate shed light on the reality on the ground regarding archaeological sites and the impediments in the way of protection, and stressing on the necessity of cooperation with Internal security Forces, Military Police and the Military Forces for the mere aim.
The meeting concluded with the following three points:
- The SDF committed to the military instructions passed on October 10th, 2020 relevant to preservation of cultural properties.
- Commitment to all the international conventions and the decision number 4 of 2019 issued by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria relevant to the preservation of antiques.
- Increasing coordination between the Antiquities Directorate and the Security Forces.
