UN envoy to Yemen arrives in Tehran

​​​​​​​The UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, arrived today in the Iranian capital, Tehran, for discussions on the Yemeni situation.

And official Iranian media announced that Griffiths had arrived, Sunday morning, in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Griffiths’s office said in a statement, "The UN envoy started a two-day visit to Iran, during which he would meet with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and a number of Iranian officials."

He explained that the visit "comes within the diplomatic efforts made by the Special Envoy to reach a political solution to the conflict in Yemen through negotiation, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people."

The visit of the UN envoy to Tehran comes after statements by Yemeni Prime Minister Moein Abdel-Malek, during his meeting with European ambassadors, in which he stressed that "there is no peace with the Houthis without international pressure on Iran."

Recently, the UN envoy held meetings with Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, Prime Minister Moein Abdel -Malek, and Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman.
