People of Kobani: Resistance in NES poses threat to fascist regimes

After weeks of tension, Al-Hasaka and Qamishlo witness calmness, after the Internal Security Forces (Asayîş) announced working on ending the escalation by the Syrian government forces.

The recent escalation prevailed after the unannounced visit of the Turkish Intelligence Chief, Hakan Fidan, to Damascus, after which the so-called "National Defense Forces" affiliated with the Syrian government arrested civilians and attacked Asayîş's checkpoints.

On the January 31st, a checkpoint of Asayîş came under fire by the Damascus government forces and the "National Defense" in the Marsho neighborhood, Al-Hasakah in NES, and the Internal Security Forces responded within their right to self-defense, as a result, clashes broke out, during which a member of the government forces was killed and 3 others were wounded.

All this coincided with suffocating siege on al-Shahba canton and the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood and Ashrafieh in Aleppo by the government forces.

This also coincided with Turkish attacks on Ain Issa and Tal Tamr's countryside in NES. All this is viewed by observers as attempts to stir up sectarian strife and an attempt to strike stability in the region that is featured by the coexistence under the Autonomous Administration.

In this context, Muhiedin Basrawi says, "The Syrian government presence in our areas is illegitimate, because we liberated it, thanks to the blood of its sons against ISIS mercenaries, established a multi-ethnic Autonomous Administration, and adapted co-existence as a principle."

He pointed out that "the Syrian government and Turkey have one common goal that is to fabricate strife among the components, so the components must respond to these hostile policies."

In turn, a member of the Intellectuals Union in Kobane, the poet, Izzat Habash, said, "The Syrian regime wants to impose authoritarian regime that the NES people do not accept."

He explained that the Autonomous Administration is not only representing the Kurds, but rather all the components and spectrums of the region, as they aspire a decentralized, democratic Syria.

For his part, the Co-chair of the Shiran District Council, Khalil Muslim, said, "The enemies of the Kurdish people unite against our Cause. The harmonious hostile policy pursued by the occupying Turkish state and the Syrian government against the people's resistance, is best example."

"They seek to undermine will of the struggling people in the face of occupation, the Syrian regime siege on al-Shahba, and the attempts to stir up seditions in both Dêrik and Al-Hasaka, in addition to the ongoing attacks and the crimes of the Turkish Occupation in the occupied territories," he stressed.

Khalil believes that "the NES people live in a high spirit of resistance and a common coexistence. This resistance places the fascist regimes in danger, especially the Syrian government."
