Ahmi: KDP should take Kurds' side not occupation state

Luqman Ahmi said that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) must stand beside the Kurdish people, and the Peshmerga must be on the People's Defense Forces and the People and Women Protection Units' (YPG, YPJ) side, not alongside the Turkish occupation state.

The attacks and massacres of the Turkish occupation state against the Kurdish people have not stopped since more than a hundred years, and these attacks and massacres differ from one era to another and from one regime to another, and their names and pretexts differ.

In recent years, the alliance of the Justice and Development and the Nationalist Movement Parties began targeting the Kurdish presence in Rojava, north-east Syria, so they launched attacks on Afrin in 2018 and on Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî in 2019, and now they threaten to launch attacks on Dêrik in Rojava and Şengal in Başûr Kurdistan.

Turkey often relies on some Kurdism-claiming parties to implement their policies and prepare the ground for world public opinion in order to give them an argument, and in this context the Kurdistan Democratic Party plays a negative role towards the Kurds by mobilizing its own forces in the legitimate defense zones and building military headquarters on the border strip between Rojava and Başûr.

In this context, the Secretary of the Kurdistan Green Party, Luqman Ahmi, explained that Turkey always seeks to strike any project through which the Kurdish people gain their legitimate rights, whether in north-east Syria, or Başûr, or Şengal.

Turkey is the principal enemy of the Kurdish people

Ahmi pointed out that any institution, organization, or party bearing a Kurdish name is a direct target of Turkey, and he said: "There is no need to say that Turkey is against the Kurds or not, as it is the main enemy of the Kurdish people, and for a hundred years it has been launching attacks against Kurds. Just as it exterminated Armenians and some other nationalities, it is now trying to exterminate the Kurdish people as well."

He indicated that the Turkish state was founded on the extermination of peoples, it always took the place of indigenous peoples, and constantly strives to exterminate steadfast peoples, including the Kurdish people.

Ahmi believes that the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s alignment with the Turkish occupation state and its plans against the Kurds are not in the interest of the Kurdish people nor in the interest of the party itself, and added: "There is no reason for Kurdish forces to stand beside the Turkish occupation state to launch an attack on a Kurdish region or other Kurdish forces, and this is a red line for all Kurdish forces."

Ahmi noted that it is not the time for Kurdish forces to launch attacks on other Kurdish forces, and continued: "The only beneficiary from weakening any Kurdish force is the Turkish occupation state, and the cause and the Kurdish people pay the price."

Ahmi pointed out that the current stage requires unifying the positions in the face of the enemy, not imposing a siege or encirclement, as he said: "The current stage requires us to convey our voice to global opinion, and to deliver our demands to the international community."

He wished that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) would not participate in the Turkish plans aimed at creating conflicts and seditions among the Kurdish people, and explained that "the Kurdistan Democratic Party is able to get out from under the Turkish plans."

Ahmi drew attention to the fact that the Kurdistan Freedom Movement stands in the way of Turkish plans aimed at exterminating the Kurds, and repels its attacks on Başûr Kurdistan. He said: "In the event that the movement is weakened, Turkey will grow stronger, then it will not recognize the force cooperated with it (the Kurdistan Democratic Party), and over time it will eliminate that force, and the Kurdistan Democratic knows this well."

Luqman Ahmi pointed out that the Turkish occupation state's officials have not yet pronounced Kurdistan name, and although the name of the Kurdistan Region has appeared in the Iraqi constitution, Turkey still describes it as northern Iraq, and he said: "Turkey turns a blind eye to some things (that is, in Başûr Kurdistan), and while eliminating its first enemy, it will eliminate the second, third and exterminate the Kurds."

We must work to hold a national conference

Ahmi stressed the need for Kurdish forces and parties not to serve the Kurds' enemies, and pointed out that the Kurdish forces and parties must identify the enemy in the first place, then draw up plans accordingly, and work towards holding a Kurdish national conference to define the goals and principles of the Kurdish people, and to prevent any Kurdish force from attacking another Kurdish force.

At the end of his speech, Luqman Ahmi said that the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Peshmerga and the people of Başûr Kurdistan have a long history of struggle, and the real place of the Kurdistan Democratic is among its people and on the side of the Kurds, and the Peshmerga's place is alongside the People's Defense Forces, the People and Women Protection Units, not on the side of the Turkish occupation state.
