The ministry statement confirmed that the Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar exchanged official notes, according to which the two countries agreed to resume diplomatic relations between them.

Media outlets reported before the start of the Gulf Cooperation Council summit that Egypt would open airspace for Qatari planes, as Saudi Arabia did, but on condition that a number of Egyptian demands are implemented.

During the "Al-Ula" summit, which was held on January 5 in Saudi Arabia, the Arab Quartet states - Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Bahrain - agreed to restore relations with Qatar and resume flights.

The 41st Gulf summit was described as "exceptional as it was able to strengthen the Gulf dialogue."

And it issued important decisions to strengthen security and military cooperation between the Gulf states, which were included in the final statement of the 41st Gulf Summit in al-Ula, northwest of Saudi Arabia.

In June 2017, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off all diplomatic and commercial relations with Doha, due to its funding of some terrorist groups, especially the Muslim Brotherhood, and its relations with Iran and Turkey.
