Negotiations on" Renaissance Dam" resume again

Tripartite negotiations between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will resume, Sunday, on the Renaissance Dam, to discuss the outstanding points of disagreement regarding the rules for filling and operating the dam and to reach a binding agreement for the three parties.

The sixth meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Irrigation of the three countries comes in order to follow up on the outcomes of the last meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of South Africa, in his capacity as the current president of the African Union, with the participation of observers and relevant experts by the African Union Commission.

During its meeting with African Union experts, the State of Sudan expressed its firm refusal to split the agreement on the Renaissance Dam in stages, and demanded a comprehensive agreement that addresses all issues related to the Renaissance Dam.

The Sudanese delegation also demanded that the AU play a more effective leadership role in the negotiation.

South Africa, the current chair of the African Union, is looking forward to ending its current session of the continental system by resolving a complex that has been intractable for more than 10 years, and hopes are pinned on the next stage to make progress in this issue.
