The American capital, Washington, is experiencing an atmosphere full of tension and anxiety, with the start of the Congress meeting to ratify the victory of Democrat Joe Biden, in the November elections, and the outgoing President Donald Trump calling for his supporters to protest, which prompted the authorities to declare a state of alert.

This last step comes before the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20.

Trump's clinging to the position showed in two steps; the first was to call for his advocators to participate in a huge protest that will be organized in the capital Washington against the election results, as Trump said in a tweet calling for participation in the protest, "Stop theft."

The U.S. authorities fear that things will get out of their control in this protest and violent acts will erupt, especially with statements made by extremist groups regarding their intention to participate.

Therefore, the American capital witnessed a great security alert in anticipation of any emergency, and the Pentagon agreed to deploy forces from the National Guard in Washington.

Even more seriously, Trump has confirmed that he will give a speech before  the demonstrators, which could lead to more tension.

The second step was Trump calling for his deputy, Mike Pence, to make efforts to reverse the results of the presidential election during the Congress meeting.

Trump expressed his hope that Pence would do "something" for the president' election campaign, and said that "the vice-president is authorized to reject the votes of members of the electoral college who were chosen fraudulently."

But CNN said Pence informed Trump that he can prevent the election results from being certified.

The vice-president in the United States has no power, and his presidency of the Senate is largely an honorary one.

Pence's role in the formal ratification of Biden's victory in the presidential election at the joint meeting of Congress both chambers is also symbolic, and is represented to oversee the electoral college vote count.

Republican representatives joined Trump in an attempt to block the ratification of the election results, but their attempt has no chance for that, and the most that they can do is delay the confirmation of Biden's victory.

In spite of this, the Republican president, whose term ends after two weeks, still refuses to acknowledge his defeat to his Democrat opponent, claiming that the elections were "stolen" from him by means of fraud, without providing evidence of that."
