Ramadan commenting on arrest of Guven: Turkey fears free women

Member of the Kurdistan National Congress Committee (KNK), Darya Ramadan, confirmed that the Turkish state fears free women's struggle, in response to the arrest of the activist, Leila Guven.

Turkish authorities have sentenced Leyla Guven, parliamentarian and co-chair of the Democratic Society Conference, to 22 years and three months in prison.

Turkey, under the Justice and Development Party and the Nationalist Movement Party alliance, (AKP, MHP) is seriously slammed in the field of justice and freedom of expression. Turkey has always been the worst ranking by international governmental and non-governmental human rights organizations.

Commenting on Guven's arrest, Ramadan said: “The AKP-MHP alliance is pursuing repressive policies against the Kurdish people.” Dirty policies against the people in Bakûr Kurdistan (Kurdish populated areas in the southeast of Turkey) repress Turkey's components, especially women militants."

Ramadan added, "Turkey targets all parliamentarians and journalists who are rising against its repressive policy in Bakûr Kurdistan."

'Turkey is afraid of free women resistance'

Ramadan pointed to the Turkish state’s hostility towards women's struggle, "Turkey fears the resistance of free women because it knows international community supports their resistance for freedom in Kurdistan. Turkey has imprisoned Guven due to her tireless struggle to unify the Kurdish ranks."

She added, "Her arrest does not mean that the struggle will stop, and the Turkish state will not be able to break the will and resistance of the women."

Darya Ramadan lashed out "the international courts and the community are turning a blind eye to Turkey's repressive policies that target Kurdish parliamentarians in Turkey," and condemned "international silence in front of Turkey's policies."
