On December 14, the US imposed sanctions on the Defense Industries Administration, the Turkish government agency in charge of purchasing the Russian S-400 air defense system, according to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

About this, the international relations writer, Mustafa Barakat, said: “The honeymoon between the regime of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the United States of America practically ended with the outgoing Trump signing sanctions Act against the background of Ankara’s involvement in purchasing the Russian” S-400 ".

Barakat added, in an interview with Hawar News Agency (ANHA) that the Trump administration sought to absolve Erdogan's regime before leaving the White House, by imposing sanctions to miss the opportunity for President-elect Joe Biden to unilaterally punish Ankara for threatening the US interests in the region, and impose Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (“CAATSA,” or “the Act”) in a strict application against Erdogan's faculties.

He continued: "this-time US sanctions on the Turkish regime will be serious and push the ruling Erdogan's AKP into an economic and political vortex capable of toppling the already fractured Erdogan regime, which has gone through the last period sharp defections indicating a state of restlessness from the behavior of a man who took control of power. He turned the edifice of a secular democracy into a medieval state ruled by a repressive dictator, monopolizes all powers and establishes state institutions to serve his personal interests.

He pointed out that "the days ahead will not go easy for the Erdogan regime, which US President-elect Joe Biden promised during his election campaign to oust him from his position through the ballot box without coups similar to that of 2017."

He added, "We must not forget the statement of former US President Barack Obama, at the end of his second term when he spoke about Erdogan by saying, I relied on him, but he disappointed me, and how he was mentioned in his recently issued book" The Promised Land ", and this vision reflects the democrats' approach to the Turkish regime, and their intention to tighten the screws on his repressive behavior, and to punish him for confusing files in Syria, Libya, and with Europe in the Eastern Mediterranean.
