New US sanctions on Iran

The United States of America imposed sanctions related to terrorism on the Iranian ambassador to the Ansar Allah "Houthi" group in Yemen, Hassan Erlo, as well as on an Iranian university.

US Treasury Department described Hassan Erlo as an official in the Quds Force, the foreign arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and the main element in Iran's interference in the region.

Meanwhile, it said, "Al-Mustafa International University in Iran uses its branches around the world as a platform to recruit followers of the Quds Force in order to collect intelligence information and carry out operations."

US Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on Yusuf Ali Morag, a Pakistani citizen residing in Iran, accusing him of supporting the Quds Force efforts to carry out operations in the Middle East and the United States.

Earlo, Morag and Al-Mustafa University have been targeted with penalties under Executive Order 13,224, which allows the US government to identify and freeze the assets of foreign individuals and entities that commit acts of terrorism or pose a high risk of committing them.
