Kuwaitis cast their ballots for the National Assembly

Kuwaitis have commenced, on Saturday, going to the poll stations for the National Assembly elections, amid tight measures due to the Covid- 19 Pandemic outbreak.

The Kuwaiti official news agency, KANA, stated that voters will cast their ballots in the five polling stations in the country amid tight preemptive measures due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Voting began at eight o'clock at local time and would last until 20:00.

326 candidates of whom 29 are women are running in the elections, for the parliament that is made up of 50 members.

567, 000 people are eligible to vote, according to the one voice system active since 2012, that gives the candidate one voice instead of four , as it was done prior to that.

Preemptive and cautionary measures taken to curb the pandemic includes gatherings outside or inside the polling centers, as face masks and gloves are compulsory, in addition to social distance and others.

Elections in Kuwait are held for the first time since prince Nawaf al-Ahmed Al-Sabbah took office in late September, after his step brother Sabbah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabbah died.
