Azerbaijan reveals an exchange of bodies with Armenia

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it had delivered the bodies of a number of Armenian soldiers who were killed during the battles in the vicinity of the strategic city of Shusha to the Armenian side, in exchange for receiving the bodies of six Azerbaijani soldiers who fell in the same area.

According to the ministry, the operation was carried out according to Article 8 of the Joint Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities in Karabakh, between Armenia and Azerbaijan, under the auspices of Russia.

The ministry pointed out that the operation was carried out with the mediation and participation of the Russian peacekeepers deployed in Karabakh, and expressed its gratitude to the Russian Ministry of Defense, and to its Minister, General Sergey Shoigu personally, for organizing this humanitarian operation.

It is noteworthy that the clashes intensified between Armenia and Azerbaijan on September 27th, amid the international efforts for a ceasefire, but Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the signing of an agreement to end the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which entered into force on the 10th of November.
