Qarmous in Hewler to dissuade KDP from hostile policies towards Kurds

The meeting between the co-chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) and the Speaker of the Parliament of the Southern Kurdistan region in Hewler Governorate in southern Kurdistan, following the escalation of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) through the mobilization of its forces in the legitimate defense areas where the People’s Defense Forces are present.

KNK, through those meetings, is trying to push the Kurdistan Democratic Party to dialogue, and to keep it away from the Turkish occupation state.

After the meeting, the co-chair of the Kurdistan National Congress Ahmed Qarmous issued a press statement in which he stated that their meeting was very important, stressing that the Speaker of the  Kurdistan Regional Parliament supports the efforts made to avoid war.

He said that the Speaker of Parliament affirmed his support for KNK efforts and expressed his rejection of the civil war.

"The civil war is unacceptable, and what is happening in southern Kurdistan is evidence of that, and we will visit political parties in the coming days with the aim of uniting against the civil war," Qarmous said.

A written statement was published on the Parliament website after the meeting including, "Currently, there is a serious economic and political situation in the Kurdistan region, and from our point of view, dialogue, and it is the only solution to overcome this situation."

He added, "We accept dialogue and believe that there should be no Kurdish fighting, because it will be a suicide war, and the ground for dialogue must be established between the conflicting parties in order to find a solution."
