Damascus refugees conference initiates with little international attention

He indicated that some countries were subjected to pressures to discourage them from participating in the conference, and Susan indicated that China, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, the UAE, Pakistan and the Sultanate of Oman are among the countries participating in the conference, while the United Nations is participating as an observer.

The conference opened today, with a word from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who said: "The issue of refugees in Syria is a fabricated issue, as the history of Syria is empty of exodus."

Al-Assad added, "Governments that have worked hard to spread terrorism cannot be the same as the reason and the way for their return to their homeland."

While the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government, Charbel Wahba, in his remarks to the conference, indicated that the Syrian displacement has become a social and economic burden on Lebanon, with the presence of about one and a half million Syrians.

Wahba has appealed the international community to assist Lebanon in implementing its plan to secure the safe and gradual return of the displaced Syrians.

The absence of the most prominent Western and Arab countries that can finance the return from this conference, according to observers, indicates that there is no use in this conference except as an "attempt to sustain the Syrian government", in exchange for official Lebanese reliance on "the Russian intention" to find alternative funding sources to achieve " A dream of return.
