Fighters in rural al-Bab: We took up arms to defend Syria, not to serve Turkish agendas

Hundreds of fighters of the Liwa Thuwar Idlib, under the banner of the Kurdish Front Forces, are deployed on the battlefronts against the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in the eastern countryside of Al-Bab area in the northern countryside of the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The differences that arose between the pro-Turkish factions and others that refused the Turkish presence and support in Syria, years ago, led to divisions between the factions, some of which refused to submit to the path charted by Ankara.

A field commander in Liwa Thuwar Idlib, Muhammad Nour, stationed in the village of Abu Al-Hawaj near the occupied city of Al-Bab, took up arms 7 years ago in Jabal Al-Zawiya in Idlib countryside, and says that he "took up arms to defend his village and area against any attack."

“We were displaced from our homes because we refused to shed the blood of the Syrians and serve the Turkish enemy”

Nour added: “Turkey exploited the weakness of the fighters’ capabilities and supported them in Idlib to achieve its ambitions. The groups that claim to be Islamic and Turkey supports have fought the moderate factions that refused to shed the blood of the Syrians in the service of the Turkish enemy, so we were displaced from our homes in Idlib, and today we are fighting the Turkish occupation and its expansionist project in the region this is our land for all Syrians, not for Turkey."

Liwa Thuwar Idlib was formed in early 2018, and it is a military faction and one of the formations of the Kurdish Front forces under the banner of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and has fought several battles in northern Syria, especially the resistance of Afrin and the areas of al-Shahba.

Most of the fighters within the ranks of faction come from Idlib governorate, and it is currently active in a number of Syrian cities, such as Raqqa, Tabqa, Manbij, al-Shahba, and on the outskirts of al-Bab.

“Turkey distorted the course of the Syrian movement”

Abdul Karim Jad, one of the field commanders in the Liwa Thuwar Idlib on the lines of contact, believes that "the ongoing war in Idlib does not serve any Syrians at the present time, as Turkey has distorted the correct path for the peaceful movement in Syria, and the Syrians have no hope in those invading forces of Syria."

Abdul Karim stresses that the Syrian Democratic Forces seek to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people, and it is the only force that has embraced Syrians from all regions and are fighting in one trench against Turkey, which occupies Idlib, Afrin and other Syrian areas.

In light of the violent battles that took place in the countryside of Idlib, last winter, Liwa Thuwar Idlib, along with Democratic Shamali Liwa, welcomed dozens of families who were displaced to the regions of northern and eastern Syria, after the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, announced that their doors are open to Syrians, especially the people of Idlib.

Idlib, northwestern Syria, is witnessing Turkish mobilization and a military escalation of the forces of the Damascus government and its allies in the recent period, despite an agreement signed on March 5 between Russia and Turkey for a ceasefire between the Ankara-backed factions and the Damascus government forces after the latter controlled a number of the cities in Idlib countryside.
