Women's council in NE, Syria asks from Swedish Foreign for forming committee interrogation

The Women’s Council in North and East Syria asked the delegation of Swedish Foreign Affairs' representatives to seek for forming a committee to investigate and document the crimes committed by Turkey and its mercenaries against the people of the region, and to hold them accountable, during the delegation’s visit to the Council.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry delegation, which is visiting northern and eastern Syria, continues to hold meetings with the Autonomous and Civil Administration institutions, as the delegation met this morning with representatives of the Women’s Council in Northern and Eastern Syria, after it had visited on Sunday refugees' camps of Serêkaniyê in al-Hasakah city.

Last Saturday, a high-ranking delegation from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs arrived at the border crossing at Semalka, and the delegation included both “” the head of the delegation, the special envoy for the Syrian file in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Per Ornios, responsible for the humanitarian file and aid in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thomas Marcus, Adviser at the European Institute of Peace, Aven Gettin.

The meeting was held in the city of Qamishlo at the Center for Women’s Council, attended by representatives of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, representatives of the Women’s Council in North and East Syria. Female members of the Coordination of the Women’s Council in North and East Syria Asia Abdullah, Jian Hussein, Stirk Qasim, Siham Ammuka, Georgette Bersumu, Perivan Fakah."

This meeting is considered the second of its kind between the Swedish Foreign Ministry and women's institutions in the regions of northern and eastern Syria, after the meeting held last year on the 18th of June, between them and Kongra Star, in which the two parties focused at that time on the experience that women went through in northern and eastern Syria, and their role in the representation of women at various levels, "administrative, political, and military".

The meeting began with the members of the Women's Council welcoming the Swedish foreign delegation, and with the reference of the head of the delegation, the special envoy for the Syrian file in the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Per Ornios, to the pioneer role of the women in north and east of Syria in defending their rights, emerging the living reality in the area to international society, and the sacrifices that had been achieved by the women since the eruption the Syrian revolution.

To continue the meeting after that, closed to the media, continued for more than an hour of time, between the two parties.

And the meeting touched upon to main points saying the member of the Coordination of the Women’s Council in North and East Syria, Siham Ammuka: “We focused in the meeting on several points, the most important of which is the suffering of the people of northern and eastern Syria, especially women, from the violations that are being practiced against them by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, and we also focused on the suffering of the peoples of the region forcibly displaced from their areas who are staying in the camps, the need to return them to their homes, and the need to support women.

She added, "We also focused on introducing the Women’s Council in North and East Syria and its components, and and we sought to reach women's voice to the international community, and we got some names of organizations that will help in the future to support the region, especially women, and we demanded the need to form committees to investigate the crimes committed against the people of northern and eastern Syria, and holding the culprits accountable.

According to the protocol officials accompanying the Swedish delegation, representatives of the Swedish Foreign Ministry are scheduled to meet with the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces in the coming hours.
