Damascus government announces extinguishing fires; people respond: There is nothing left to burn

Today, the Damascus government announced that all fires that swept across the Syrian coast have been put out, while citizens have criticized this on social media, saying that the fires have burned all forests and crops.

The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in the Damascus government, Muhammad Hassan Qatana, said that all the fires that broke out at dawn on Friday in the governorates of Latakia, Tartous and Homs had been put out.

In a statement to the official SANA agency, Eng. Qatana explained that the number of fires reached 156, including 95 in Lattakia, 49 in Tartous, and 12 in Homs, pointing out that the fire at Al Balaa site in Homs was extinguished this morning, and it is in the process of monitoring and cooling.

According to the minister, the firefighting and civil defense teams present at the fire sites, with the participation of army helicopters, continue to cool down the burned sites in the Latakia governorate to prevent their recurrence.

This government statement was criticized by the people on social media, as they expressed their annoyance over the delay in government procedures.

Syrian actor Bashar Ismail wrote on his Facebook page, saying: “Despite the state of depression and sadness, I laughed at news I read that all fires have been put out in Lattakia.”
