Macron: We seek to obtain a common European position on Turkey's provocations

French President Emmanuel Macron announced from the island of Corsica that he seeks to reach with the leaders of the southern European Union countries to a common position regarding Turkey's provocations.

French President Emmanuel Macron said, according to Reuters, that the summit hosted by his country for the leaders of the southern European Union countries bordering the Mediterranean on the French island of Corsica, will push for a common position of the European Union on Turkey.

The French president called for a unified and clear European voice towards Turkey's provocations in the eastern Mediterranean, and as Ankara warned, saying: "It is up to Turkey to clarify its intentions, and Europe must be more firm towards the Turkish president."

Relations between the European Union and Turkey are strained over a number of issues, including hydrocarbon exploration in the eastern Mediterranean.

The French Elysee Palace had said that the aim of this summit was "to advance on the path of consensus on the relationship of the European Union with Turkey, in particular in preparation for the European summit on September 24 and 25, which will be devoted to this purpose in Brussels."
