A senior US administration official said, according to Reuters, that US President Donald Trump will announce today that he is withdrawing more of his country's forces from Iraq.

The official added that this announcement will be followed by another announcement in the coming days regarding an additional reduction of US forces in Afghanistan.

The decision comes, according to the agency, as Trump faces negative reactions from a report it says has spoken in a humiliating manner about the American war dead.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity last month, said that the United States is expected to withdraw about a third of its forces from Iraq in the coming months.

There are about 5,200 American soldiers in Iraq, who were recruited by the Pentagon to fight ISIS, and there are currently about 8,600 soldiers in Afghanistan.

Trump is currently fighting a tough presidential race against former Vice President Joe Biden, trailing his Democratic rival in major polls.
