Raqqa sportsmen condemn what happened to Afrin club in Lattakia stadium

Al-Raqqa athletes condemned the violations of Afrin Football Club, which reached the point of physical assault on the players, and stressed that what was done by the forces of maintaining order brings back the memory of what happened in Qamishlo stadium in 2004.

In the past few days, the city of Latakia witnessed an attack against athletes from Afrin Football Club during their match with Al-Tadamon Club during the Syrian League.

In this context, Hawar News Agency conducted interviews with athletes from the city of Raqqa, during which they condemned the excesses that Afrin club had suffered, amounting to physical attacks on the players.

Abdul Razzaq al-Ahmad, a sportsman from the city of Raqqa, asserted that: “What happened cannot be linked to sports in any way, and that security interference in sports affairs is not a momentary event. Rather, the stadiums, facilities and sports institutions are witness to this interference, as happened in the stadium of Qamishlo in the year 2004 ".

In turn, athlete Muhammad al-Saleh said: “After the players were subjected to injustice by the referees, these transgressions occurred against them, which are really unfortunate matters that should not happen in the stadiums, but what happened confirms that the security mentality of the Syrian government constitutes a barrier to the development of Syrian sports.”

Al-Raqqa athletes also sent a message of solidarity in the name of all athletes in northern and eastern Syria to Afrin club, regretting what happened to them, and wishing that the days would bring the club’s sporting successes that will forget what happened to it at the hands of the Syrian government’s policing forces and the supporters of the Solidarity Club.
