Lavrov from Damascus: Syrians must unify their ranks internally

After talks with a high-level Russian delegation with Bashar Al-Assad and Syrian government officials, a press conference was held in Damascus.

Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Walid Al-Muallem said at the press conference: "The discussions with the Russian side are fruitful in all fields."

"The future of relations with friends in Russia is promising with regard to the economic and political situation in the country," al-Muallem added.

For his part, the Russian Prime Minister said, "We had constructive and useful discussions, and discussed strengthening economic cooperation."

As for Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, he said, "Our visit is devoted to discussing future prospects for developing bilateral relations."

In response to a question about the memorandum of understanding between the Syrian Democratic Council and the Popular Will Party, Lavrov said: “We in Russia and during all the years of the Syrian crisis have provided the Moscow platform to the various Syrian forces, and perhaps because there is no better platform now, the Moscow platform and the Moscow platform chose Russia to conduct these consultations.”

 Lavrov called on everyone to see this document, adding, "The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the Popular Will will express in this document its full commitment to the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria."
