Reuters news agency quoted residents in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, that a strong explosion echoed in most parts of the city in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and black flames rose in the sky.

Local TV stations reported that a suicide bomber on a motorcycle detonated an explosive device at the entrance to the highway coming from the west, but there was no official confirmation.

"I was driving on the highway early in the morning, at around 7:30 and I heard a huge explosion ... Most of the other cars turned around after seeing black smoke in the sky," said a witness, who asked not to be named.

The capital, Tripoli, which is controlled by the Libyan Government of National Accord forces, militias and mercenary groups, is in a state of chaos against the backdrop of the escalation of popular protests against GNA, in addition to the division between Al-Sarraj and his interior minister, Fathi Pasha Agha.
