The Greek Staff said in a statement published on its website yesterday, that among the aircrafts that arrived at the base are 4 "F-16" fighters, a "C-130" transport plane and 3 transport planes "C-17".

The General Staff indicated that during the exercises, cooperation between the Greek and Emirati air forces would be trained in order to increase readiness to implement tasks and develop combat capabilities.

She pointed out that the joint exercises come "as a result of the distinguished relations and cooperation between the two countries," as well as the close contact between the leaders of the armed forces in Greece and the Emirates.

These exercises come against the backdrop of tension between Greece and Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean region, amid the controversy over the demarcation of maritime borders and Turkey's exploration of oil and gas in areas that Athens considers part of its continental shelf.
