Politician, Jurist: Most human rights organizations are partners with Turkey in imposing isolation on Ocalan

The Jurist and Member of the General Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) Mostafa Abdi affirmed that "the Turkish state is afraid of the democratic project of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and fears that his ideas coming to light, and the isolation imposed on him does not conflict with the interests of human rights organizations; otherwise, we would see a move by them to break this isolation."

Mostafa Abdi's statement came in an interview conducted by Hawar news agency about the isolation imposed by the Turkish authorities on the Leader Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali Island prison, as his lawyers and family are prevented from meeting with him.

The Jurist and Politician Mostafa Abdi says that "the Turkish state is afraid of the ideas presented by the Leader Abdullah and is afraid that his project that seeks humanity will come to light because that harms it, so it arrested him and imposed isolation on him on the island of Imrali."

He added: "There is no clause in international law that allows imposing isolation on a detainee and forbidding his family and lawyers from visiting him. In international charters, there are rights for political detainees enacted by the United Nations and the Turkish state that ignored and violated all laws by imposing isolation on the Leader Abdullah Ocalan."

The Turkish state has been imposing tight isolation on the leader Abdullah Ocalan since 2015, and although it allowed his family and lawyers to meet with him in the middle of last year, several recent requests submitted by Ocalan family's lawyers were rejected by the Turkish authorities, which indicates that it perhaps imposed the isolation again.

This comes while no human rights or humanitarian organizations issue any move to lift the isolation on Ocalan.

The European Committee against Torture said a few days ago that the restrictions imposed on Ocalan and his companions in Imrali are "unacceptable", and urged to give Ocalan more external contacts and reduce solitary confinement.

The Kurdish jurist from Kobane pointed out that "the Human Rights Organization has enacted laws for its interests, even those who have put in place laws to protect human rights and detainees ignore what they enacted if these laws contradict their interests. Otherwise, we would have seen them opposed Turkey's policy towards the Leader Abdullah Ocalan and said that this isolation is opposed to international laws and charters."

He pointed out that "it is the duty of the Committee against Torture to fulfill its duty regarding isolation on the leader, but most human rights organizations are partners with the Turkish state in this isolation, so they remain silent."

The Jurist and Politician Mostafa Abdi concluded his speech, calling on the Kurdish people, intellectuals, politicians and jurists to raise their voices to lift the isolation on Ocalan because their silence is the goal of the Turkish state."
