Gulf Cooperation Council denounces Iranian threats to the Emirates

The Gulf Cooperation Council has expressed its condemnation of the threats made by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and some Iranian officials towards the United Arab Emirates.

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Al-Hajraf, called on Iran to adhere to the basic principles, principles and pillars of the United Nations Charter and international law, based on respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in internal affairs, resolving disputes by peaceful means and not using force or threatening it.

The Council affirmed that the Cooperation Council stands with the UAE against any threats to its sovereignty, security and stability based on the principle of joint defense, and that the security and stability of the Cooperation Council is an integral whole.

At the same time, Al-Hajraf called on Iran to adhere to the policy of good neighborliness and to desist from threatening rhetoric that does not serve security and stability in the region and the world at large.

The UAE Foreign Ministry summoned the Chargé d'Affairs at the Iranian embassy in Abu Dhabi, and handed him a protest note against the background of the threats contained in the Iranian president's speech.
