On Kurdish Press Day…new media law to be drafted

The Information Office of the Autonomous Administration of the North and East of Syria congratulated the Kurdish Press Day on all media staff and confirmed a new media law that keeps the rights of journalists without detracting, and helps them to abide by their duties in accordance with the ethics of this profession and the contents of the charters of the press.

This came in a statement issued by the Information Office on the on the Kurdish Press Day, which falls on April 22, and the statement read:

"The Kurdish Press Day, which falls on April 22^nd amid a wide range of changes in the public and media adding a special importance to this day and requiring a significant review for the media situation in northeast of Syria," the statement said.

We in the Information Office, extend our sincere congratulations to all media workers in the northeast of Syria on this occasion and would like to emphasize the important role of the media in northeast of Syria and all its staff to reach the voice of citizens to the responsible authorities, and the reality of the events in northeast of Syria to the world.

We note that professionalism is a priority for establishing strategic plans for sophisticated media, and it is necessary to join efforts in this field to create a better media reality in which the rights of journalists are respected with the best professional and ethical standards of work.

We confirm that we are working on a new media law that will allow all journalists to exercise their rights without diminishing, in accordance with the ethics of this profession and the contents of the charters of journalistic honors globally.

We are also working to reach a strategic approach in thinking in order to develop the media in the northeast of Syria. We will not miss the opportunity to find the best ways of coordination between all parties to facilitate the task of media professionals in accessing and obtaining information to ensure a real openness to the media by all institutions and frameworks.

In conclusion, we appeal to all media workers from northeast of Syria, both inside and outside to provide a helping hand and support with the expertise and proposals of the media supervisors in the Autonomous Administration to develop the media situation in the region.

We also remind all media outside the northeast regions of Syria and all the institutions and unions that are focused in our regions that our doors are open to their activities on the ground to ensure the best conditions for their success, and to ensure a more diverse media situation.
