The two siblings Gerrard went from Germany to Turkey and from there to Syria from the Turkish city of Gaziantep, and they remained in contact with their families even 3 months after they entered the Syrian territories, explaining to their families that they joined the ranks of ISIS, and that they were undergoing training courses in Syria, so that they would later discontinue contact with them.

The fate of the two siblings Gerrard remained unknown in Syria, until family received information from some mercenaries in 2019 that the two siblings Gerrard, in addition to twenty mercenaries, were arrested before the SDF on the outskirts of the town of Hajin, and were taken to prison in the areas of NE, Syria.

Germany and Turkey made it easier for them to reach Syria

Gerrard said: "The German government is aware from the start that my sons are planning to join ISIS, by traveling to Turkey and from there to Syria, and I confirmed this because there are pictures proving that they met a group of mercenaries in Germany before heading to Turkey, just as it was Germany that facilitated their arrival in Turkey, and still remains silent, and Turkey, in turn, facilitated their arrival in Syria to join the terrorist mercenaries. "

Gerrard pointed to the position of the German government towards his children after their arrest and continued: "I am the only person who has filed a lawsuit against the German government, and this is because it did not move to prevent their arrival in Turkey and Syria and join the ranks of ISIS.

 It also indicated its unwillingness to bring its own citizens who joined the ranks of ISIS and detainees in northern Syria, and it claims that Autonomous Administration is illegal so this cannot coordinate and deal with it. "

The German government should support AA efforts to try ISIS elements

Gerrard, in conclusion, called on the German government to assume its responsibilities by saying: "I call on the German government to do its duty towards my children and all German detainees who joined ISIS in Syria, and they are now detained by the SDF, and if that is difficult, it should support AA efforts to form a court to hold them accountable, stressing that he will continue to review the German institutions concerned for the sake of his children. "
