Iraqi cities are witnessing huge protests over assigning the government of Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi.

Al-Sumeria News said al-Habubi square in Zi Qar is witnessing large demonstrations against Allawi's candidacy, noting that the process of cutting off streets with burning tyres has started.

Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi, announced  on Saturday (February 1, 2020) that he was assigned by President, Barham Saleh to form the government, and while he called on demonstrators to continue the demonstrations, he stressed that he did not deserve the post if he did not meet their demands.

A security source said on Saturday that a number of protesters blocked streets in Diwaniyah province.

The source told Al Sumeria News, "A number of demonstrators in Diwaniyah province started to escalate and cut off the main streets by burning tires in order to refuse to assigning Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi as a  prime minister."
