Egyptian, Saudi refusal to Turkish escalation in Libya

The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia agreed to reject the Turkish escalation because it represents a violation of international law, while the Saudi Foreign Minister said that the kingdom is keen not to escalate the situation in the region.

Today, the Saudi capital, Riyadh, witnessed a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Red Sea countries, to discuss security challenges in the region.

The King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, received, on Monday, the foreign ministers of the countries participating in the meeting, during which a number of issues related to developing joint cooperation between countries bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden were discussed, in a manner that enhances security and stability in the region. Rejection to "Turkish escalation" in Libya

The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia agreed to reject the Turkish escalation because it represents a violation of international law, as well as to stress the importance of pushing efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement that addresses all aspects of the Libyan crisis.

The meeting of the two ministers took place on Monday in Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers of Arab and African countries bordering the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in its statement that the meeting dealt with the rapid developments taking place in the regional arena, especially the escalating tensions on the Libyan scene in light of the last step related to the mandate granted by the Turkish parliament to send Turkish forces to Libya.

The two ministers also discussed during the meeting the situation in Iraq, Iranian and Turkish interventions in the region, and the threats facing the Arab states in the Gulf, and agreed on the importance of not allowing developments on the regional scene to negatively affect the security and stability of the Arab Gulf.

The two ministers exchanged visions on a number of other issues and current crises and ways of joint coordination between the two countries regarding them, which would contribute to achieving security and stability in the region.
