Will Hamas give up its weapons in exchange for recognition?

According to the Israeli media that said, citing senior Israeli security sources,  there was a  significant progress with Hamas in a full-fledged peace agreement, including: " the exchange of prisoners, long-term calm, easing of The Israeli blockade on Gaza, pushing for development and relief projects for Gaza."

 An Oslo-style agreement,

In  accordance with this ease, it includes Israeli recognition of Hamas, as an official Palestinian entity, not a terrorist movement,  movement's abandonment of its armed approach of dealing with Israel, which means a prelude to a larger agreement between Hamas and Israel similar to Oslo peace agreement which Israel signed  with PLO

Egyptian mediation

According to the Israeli media, These terms,  were discussed at the last session of the Israeli Cabinet for Political and Security Affairs "Al-Kabnet", it is expected according to the statement of ministers in the "cabin": that the appease will come into effect between Hamas and Israel, within weeks,  "The mediators practice, most notably Egypt, are pressing for a calm state."

The head of Israel's Council for National Security , Meir Ben Shabat, stated that under the appease agreement, Israel would also provide facilities at the civilian level in exchange for preventing rocket fire at Israel and a gradual reduction of demonstrations at the security fence between Israel and Gaza."

Calm in Palestine in exchange for escalation in Lebanon and Syria

In the same context, Israeli security sources have indicated that the Israeli push for a calm agreement with Gaza, aims at directing Israeli attention to the northern front, with Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran.

Palestinian observers say that  the High Commission  announcement of  returning to the  marches and  breaking of the siege, the body that organizes weekly marches in Gaza on the security fence with Israel - and Hamas dominates its decision - stopping the weekly activities of marches, and turning them into once a month and at national events, comes in The framework for Hamas's commitments of appease  with Israel.

They noted that the field data shows a real progress in the appease with Israel, despite Hamas' announcement otherwise.

'Palestinian Authority rejects these understandings',

Fatah spokesman. Osama al-Qawasmi told Hawar News Agency, that Hamas' understandings with Israel coincide with the American century deal to settle the Palestinian issue, because of its contribution to the isolation and separation of Gaza Strip from the West Bank."

"The Palestinian Authority rejects these understandings as an abuse of the official Palestinian legitimate institutions, President, Mahmoud Abbas has repeatedly reiterated his rejection of these understandings," he added.

"PA will not agree to pass the projects resulting from these understandings, which are in line with the requirements of the Century Deal  to settle the Palestinian issue," he said.

The existence of a comprehensive appease between Hamas and Israel is not true,"

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told Hawar News Agency: "What is  reported through the Israeli media about a comprehensive appease and an Egyptian-sponsored prisoners exchange deal between Hamas and Israel is incorrect."

He added that what was being discussed under Egyptian auspices between Israel and Hamas was the easing of the suffocating blockade imposed on Gaza for more than 12 years."

He continued, it is too early to talk about a calm agreement with Israel, as it has not complied with the full provisions of the previous agreements with Gaza, and has not eased its blockade on the Gaza Strip, which means that it is not possible to develop this agreement as long as Israel does not implement the preconditions for an appease with Gaza, which is to ease the blockade. And allow dealing with the electricity problem in Gaza and entering the international projects. Adding  "Our people have the right to live freely and with dignity on their land, and to continue to struggle to get rid of the occupation," he said.

Qassem denied that there are conditions from calm brokers with Israel, abandoning the military approach, in exchange for providing international status to the movement, saying that "armed resistance is a fixed option, Hamas will not give up this option, at all costs."

On the news of an imminent prisoner exchange agreement, Qassem commented: "Israel continues to lag behind in this case, and does not take it seriously," describing it as "manipulating with the feelings of the captive soldiers' families in the hands of the military wing of Hamas,  Al-Qassam Brigades."

International efforts for taming Hamas

"There are international attempts to tame Hamas, just as it was with the PLO, which, abandoned after the peace agreement with Israel,  the armed struggle," the political writer and analyst Dr. Thabet Al-Amour thinks.

He did not rule out international and global promises to provide Hamas, parallel to the Palestinian Authority, as the strongest party on the Palestinian stage."."

"Hamas will not give up its military capabilities,"

he said, adding that Hamas "will not give up its military capabilities in exchange for a calm agreement with Israel," noting that the group "realizes that its current position was the product of its military power, and without it, it offers itself a sacrifice to the international slaughterhouse and will not pay a price for it."

He said that the understandings of the appease, if based on the basis of "disarming Hamas", will soon culminate in failure, but he said: "The issue is not to disarm Hamas, but to tame it, and to reduce its use," noting that this may "succeed in the face of Gaza's deteriorating living, humanitarian and economic crises."
